2011 USCA National Indoor Championship is a success!
The 2011 National Indoor Championships was a great success not only for our athletes and clubs but for US Collegiate Archery (USCA). USCA had an increase of 17% in participation from last year. The total number of collegiate competitors was 379 at six venues across the United States. As an inclusive organization that supports all forms of archery, this was the first year that the Bowhunter and College Basic Bow divisions were offered at all sites. Both divisions more than doubled their participation for both men and women.
In the Recurve Men's Division, a record 121 men vied for the title but Glen Thomas (Penn College) successfully defended his title and earned the National Champion honor. 2nd place went to Dakota Sinclair (UC San Diego) and 3rd place to Tyler Schardt (Texas A&M).
Recurve Women's National Champion is once again Olympian Jennifer Nichols (Texas A&M) with fellow Teammate Kayla DeBord (Texas A&M) placing 2nd and Sarah Chai from the Columbia University team placing 3rd.
In the Compound Men's Division, Penn College's Danny Wido earned the Championship title and fellow teammate Zachary Plannick placed 2nd. Braden Mook (Univ of Wisc., Stevens Pt) earned the 3rd place honor.
The Women's Compound Championship was won by Tristan Skarvan (Texas A&M), with Seneca Francis (Utah State) and Elizabeth Sweet (Golden West) earning the 2nd and 3rd place honors respectively.
The Bowhunter Men's Title was won by Richard Hulton (Penn State). Matthew Schroedus (No. Michigan State) placed 2nd and 3rd place was won by Kelvin DeWalt (Penn State).
Northern Michigan University's Nicole Ashley won the first Archery Championship title for her university in the Bowhunter Women's division with Michelle Huffman (Penn State) placing 2nd.
Cal State Long Beach, one of the oldest clubs in US Collegiate Archery recruited Cameron McLeod to the team this year, and with only 8 months experience, Cameron swept his division with an impressive score of 924 in the Men's College Basic Bow Division. Univ of Chicago, in their first National Competition had a good showing with Michael Tracht placing 2nd and also, in their first ever competition, Jacky Wan from UC Merced placed 3rd.
Veteran Susan Wang (Harvard) returned to win the National Title for College Basic Bow, with newcomer Victoria Plutshack (Univ of Chicago) placing 2nd and Robyn McAllen (Penn State) placing 3rd.
Congratulations to all of our clubs and athletes who participated in this event. The Team rankings will be published soon. Until then -- we hope you all had a great experience at USCA's National Indoor Championship and hope to see you all at your respective Regional Intercollegiate Archery Championship on 15-17 April at Penn College, Univ of Texas, Cal State Long Beach, and Purdue University.
