USCA Hosts Successful 3D USIAC

The first-ever 3D U.S. Intercollegiate Archery Championships were held June 2-4 at Edinboro University in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. The event opened to great weather, during which compound and recurve athletes shot 20 targets at marked distances with a maximum distance of 45 yards.
The beginning of the second day was delayed for tornado watches and thunder.  The wind was howling - but since athletes had experienced Texas rain and wind at USIACs during the previous month, competitors took it in stride.  Getting a late start at 9 a.m., temperatures were about 50 degrees.
The athletes warmed up on the practice field and headed up to the range at Edinboro University for the second half of the tournament which was 20 targets, this time at unmarked distances, with a max distance of 45 yards.
The first targets on that course were inside the forest which was like night time due to the heavy clouds and rain.  Once the 6 targets were shot, they emerged into a meadow, which proved to be quite wet without the tree canopy, and shot another 11 targets before re-entering the forst for the final 3 targets.  Shooting turkeys, deer, bears, leopards and all other kinds of animals, the athletes had a great time and laughed throughout.

Awards were presented by Board member Chad Karstetter and Executive Director Lorretta Sinclair.  Breakfast was cooked by Executive Director Lorretta Sinclair and Ann Severance.

USCA would like to specifically thank Chris, Caitline, and Nicole from Edinboro University for their hard work as well as Dave Ferrie, Nate Graves, and Mike Debolt for helping Chad and Lorretta set up the course.  Special thanks to Amanda Ferrie for her coordinating efforts of the 3D USIAC. Photos from the event may be viewed here.
